Sustainable & regional by conviction

At Hotel Fisserhof, sustainability is not considered an add-on – it is part of our daily routine. As a hotel in one of the most beautiful regions of Tyrol, we have a special responsibility towards nature, people and future generations. For this reason, we pursue distinct measures to protect our environment, conserve resources and optimise the comfort of our guests at the same time.

Sustainability begins within the team: We are convinced that we can only operate sustainably if we all work together. That is why we lay our focus not only on technology and optimisation, but also on values and awareness. Through targeted education within the team, we ensure that our employees think and act sustainably. This enables us to use resources responsibly and avoid waste in all areas, whether it be energy, water or food.

Electricity - 100 % renewable energy

All our electricity needs are covered in their entirety by renewable energy sources. We only use certified green electricity in accordance with the 2012 Green Electricity Act. Around 93% is sourced from regional hydropower in Tyrol.

Moreover we implement a variety of energy-saving measures in the hotel, including lighting that exclusively relies on LED bulbs.

District heating from Fiss using regional wood chips

Heat - 100 % from regional wood chips

Our heating and water supply is provided by regional district heating based on biomass meaning that we exclusively heat with wood chips from the region. As a result, we avoid around 338 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year in comparison to conventional oil heating - this corresponds to approximately 1.4 million kilometres driven by car or the annual CO₂ emissions of around 21 single-family homes.

Water - used sparingly

We use water responsibly. We use collected rainwater for all garden irrigation and only water-saving fittings, showers and shower heads. This applies not only to the rooms, but also to the kitchen, laundry room and all other areas.

Local and regional food

Fresh, seasonal and predominantly regional products are of central importance to us. By working closely with producers and suppliers from the region, we strengthen the local economy and at the same time avoid long transport routes – for the sake of the environment.

In 2024, we sourced around 13.5 tonnes of high-quality food that was produced and processed directly in Tyrol – including cream, fruit, herbs, cheese, honey, butter, meat products, curd cheese, milk, yoghurt, vegetables and eggs.

In order to avoid food waste, we deliberately refrain from offering buffets at dinner, such as starter and dessert buffets, and serve you the dishes instead.

Ventilation control via building management system

Building management system - centrally controlled

To ensure that the green electricity and heat from biomass are used as efficiently and sustainably as possible, all technical systems in the hotel are centrally networked via a modern building management system. This includes heat generation, heating circuits, underfloor heating, ventilation systems, hot water preparation, swimming pool technology and lighting. Heat and energy meters are used for continuous optimisation. Some specific examples of intelligent control:

Lighting: All lighting scenes in the hotel are controlled according to time and daylight. When there is sufficient daylight, the lighting intensity is automatically reduced in public areas such as the reception, hotel bar, swimming pool or relaxation rooms.

Ventilation: The ventilation systems in the restaurant regulate themselves automatically as required. If an increased CO₂ value is measured in the exhaust air, the ventilation output increases until the value returns to normal.

Sustainable mobility

Our guests have access to 11 charging stations for electric vehicles in the underground car park – charging is of course included in your stay.

Our vehicle fleet is also completely electric: all company vehicles, including the hotel buses, the building services vehicles and the ski shuttle to the mountain railways, are powered purely by electricity. The only exception is a compact wheel loader.

Waste prevention & recycling

At Hotel Fisserhof, waste prevention is our top priority – not just waste disposal. In the kitchen, we mainly rely on loose deliveries of goods and use almost exclusively reusable containers for beverages. In housekeeping, too, containers for cleaning products are collected and returned to the supplier for reuse. Where waste cannot be avoided, we ensure consistent separation and proper recycling.

Further measures

Heat recovery: Modern heat recovery systems in our ventilation and cooling technology allow existing energy to be used multiple times instead of escaping unused. This significantly increases our energy efficiency.

Dosing technology: Our in-house laundry uses precise dosing systems that apply cleaning agents and detergents as needed. This prevents overdosing, reduces water consumption and protects the environment. The same principle applies to all cleaning agents used throughout the hotel.

Digital instead of paper: Our internal processes are largely digitised and therefore almost paperless. We also consciously refrain from print advertising and printed hotel brochures.
